How to use the temperature converter
Type a temperature and choose the scales. Open the steps to see the formula used, which is handy for oven settings, weather forecasts and science homework.
The formula
°F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32°C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9K = °C + 273.15
Worked example
Water boils at 100 °C. In Fahrenheit that is 100 × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 = 212 °F.
Common questions
At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit the same?
At −40. It is the one point where both scales show the same number.
What is a quick way to estimate Fahrenheit?
Double the Celsius figure and add 30. It is close enough for weather: 20 °C is roughly 70 °F (exactly 68).
What is absolute zero?
The lowest possible temperature: 0 K, which is −273.15 °C or −459.67 °F.
